What does CircumnaviMe means

CircumnaviMe came from Circum Navigate Medium and Circum Navigate me, Myself. The concept’s word Circus, is what inspired the course.
Circumnavime is empowering children to do by themselves, exploring Art, promote encourage free expression.

What is CircumnaviMe project
CircumnaviMe is a project designed for children’s exploration of arts medium. It’s courses involve:
•	Juggling techniques inspired by the circus,
•	Spontaneous dance embracing popular dance
 Sculpture in Ceramic
Manipulation of recycled materials with minimal impact on the environment

Our course will enhance:

•	self-confidence, body coordination, motor skills both reflexive and instinctive, children’s linguistic skills, logical and imaginative discoveries
•	children’s awareness of the environment, which deserves to be protected end respected.

Theory

Children have a hundred languages, and they want to use them all. They learn very soon how difficult it is for this right to be recognized and above all respected.
This is why children ask us to be their allies in resisting hostile pressures and defending spaces for creative freedom which, in the end, are also spaces of joy, trust, and solidarity.
(Reggio Children, The hundred language of children, of Loris Malaguzzi)

Exploring children's infinite wealth of potential, their ability to wonder and investigate, their ability to co-construct their knowledge through active and original relational processes: this has always been the primary objective of CircumnaviMe. The use of a variety of communicative media was motivated by the need of knowledge building, creativity and the respect of individual action.
The practice is based on a child and an adult working together in the reciprocal exchange of resources. The highest attention is always taken in carrying out projects on a variety of themes: investigate and building “personal” processes of the children, as well as their “personal” linguistic, logical, and imaginative discoveries.

What Greta Caponnetto does..

I help children to find them deep voice.
CircumnaviMe is a school of Art expression, therefore the final aim is to “perform” and display what children have learnt and created all along the course.
The course is open for children aged two and older.
The course creates a free space where children can follow them imagination and develop artistic skills, as well as explore their own creativity and experience different kinds of Art, such as:

•	Stilts and Juggling techniques as Poi and Sticks (8 years old and up)
•	Popular and spontaneous dance (from 4 to 10 years old)
•	Rhythm and song (any age)
•	Manipulation of recycled (from 2 years old, with mothers, to 16 years hold)

Children are naturally prone to art; I believe it is just matter of trusting them and allowing them to develop their own skills.
My main commitment is: guiding children to develop various artistic project using all kind of materials (glue, sand, clay, wood, cloth, cello tape, wire, colours, papier-mâché, rope…) teaching them how to be creative with minimal impact on the environment and being inspired by Nature.

•	At the end of the workshop we shall combine all the artistic elements developed during the course (mask, costume, huge set design, rhythm, and dance) into a mini performance.

Juggling techniques: Stilts, Poi, Sticks

The Juggling Techniques is a noble Art. This is one of the best ways to develop self-confidence, body coordination, balance, grace and strength and spontaneous expression. CircumnaviMe is inspired by poetry of Circus; we like to recreate the joyful Circus environment.
Juggling is a very ancient Art, it’s the wisdom of the body.

•	Poi and Sticks is yoga for your motor skills visit: http://www.playpoi.com/poi_yoga_motor_skillsfor
Poi It is rooted in the History of the Maori people of Aotearoa (New Zealand). It began as a physical exercise, used by women to develop grace and flexibility, and by men to develop strength and coordination. Sticks come from martial arts and are useful for inner balance and strength.
Poi and Sticks, literally magnify our movements, allowing us to observe the accuracy of direction, timing, rhythm, and force. The circular nature of poi movement encourages us to develop harmonic movement.

•	Stilts walking awake our inner character as well our personality and of course engage your balance. We found Stilts in African rituals and in medieval carnivals.
I care to underline is it not dangerous for children, because I’m pretty experienced in set up a safe place for practicing a protected walk.

The most developed motor skills are reflexive and instinctive, and require little or no thought. Although reflex skills are the desired goal of dancers.

Getting the best results
I would appreciate if children brought recyclable
or organic items: newspaper, cardboard, empty
plastic bottles, metal, old cloth, old socks, wood,
sand, leafs etc.

Children will need to wear old clothes, so they
can be free to experiment with all kinds of materials.

About Greta Caponnetto of CircumnaviMe:

Since 2002 I have been running successful children’s art workshops where the aim is to develop spontaneous creativity for all those that take part: even mothers and teachers. My creativity course is based on the idea "re-create" a form of art, working with natural elements and recycled materials.
The course focuses on nature to inspire creativity and give life to old objects, which will became children’s toys, artwork, huge set design or technical equipment for juggling.
I believe Art is an Act of freedom. Art is one of the best ways to develop self-confidence and body coordination, is it the best way to know ourselves.
As a teacher my success and my duty is to help children grow up as free confident people, individuals who recognise what they truly want, then follow it, developing the ability to handle everything and deliver their feelings trough Art.
Everything we see around us is made either by the hand of many people who work together or by Nature. The aim is to make children aware of the environment around them, which deserves to be protected end respected.
